Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu & Evening at Boudhanath Stupa
Upon arrival at Kathmandu’s international airport, you are welcomed and transferred to your hotel. After some time to rest and refresh, the evening is devoted to Boudhanath Stupa, the largest stupa in Nepal and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Surrounded by the hum of prayer wheels and the fragrance of incense, Boudhanath radiates a meditative energy. Circumambulating with monks and local devotees as butter lamps flicker in the twilight creates the perfect introduction to your Buddhist journey. The evening concludes with a traditional Tibetan dinner nearby, overlooking the stupa’s illuminated dome.
Day 2Swayambhunath & Kapan Monastery
The morning begins with a visit to Swayambhunath, also known as the Monkey Temple, perched on a hilltop overlooking the Kathmandu Valley. Believed to have emerged spontaneously from a lotus, Swayambhunath is one of the oldest religious sites in Nepal and a symbolic fusion of Buddhism and Hinduism. Pilgrims ascend the stone steps to reach the stupa, spinning prayer wheels and making offerings of butter lamps. In the afternoon, you drive to Kapan Monastery, one of the most vibrant centers of Tibetan Buddhism outside Tibet. Here, visitors can witness the chanting of monks, participate in meditation sessions, and engage with the teachings of the Gelug tradition. The day ends with quiet reflection amidst the monastery’s prayer flags fluttering in the wind.
Day 3Namobuddha Monastery Excursion
A scenic drive takes you to Namobuddha, one of the most hallowed Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal. According to legend, this is the place where a young prince sacrificed his own body to feed a starving tigress and her cubs, an act of supreme compassion that resonates deeply with Buddhist teachings. Today, the hilltop monastery at Namobuddha overlooks rolling valleys and terraced fields, providing a serene backdrop for prayer and meditation. Visitors can explore the monastery complex, listen to monks’ chanting, and soak in the tranquil atmosphere before returning to Kathmandu in the evening.
Day 4Pharping & Asura Cave
The journey continues south of the city to Pharping, a sacred site associated with Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), who meditated here before bringing Buddhism to Tibet. The main highlight is the Asura Cave, where Padmasambhava attained realization. The area also houses numerous monasteries and retreat centers belonging to different Tibetan Buddhist lineages. Devotees light butter lamps and prostrate before the cave’s entrance, while others meditate in its dimly lit interior. The spiritual energy of Pharping makes it one of the most powerful Buddhist sites in Nepal, complementing the experiences of the previous days.
Day 5Departure
On your final morning in Kathmandu, you may return to Boudhanath for a last circumambulation and prayer. After breakfast, you are transferred to the airport for departure, carrying with you the blessings and inspiration from your Buddhist pilgrimage in Nepal.
