Shivapuri – Bishnudwar Hike

The Bishnudwar Hike is a perfect day escape into nature inside Shivapuri National Park. Bishnudwar, meaning “Gate of Vishnu,” is the source of the holy Bishnumati River, sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists. The trail winds through lush forest, steep climbs, and peaceful waterfalls. Along the way, you may spot deer, monkeys, and a variety of birds. The route is well-marked, with signboards pointing toward Bishnudwar, Shivapuri Peak, and Baghdwar.
At the top, you’ll find caves, a sacred linga, and wide views of Kathmandu Valley with glimpses of the distant Himalayas. It’s a great spot to rest, enjoy your packed lunch, and take photos. You can return the same way or extend your adventure to places like Nagi Gumba, Baghdwar, Tarebhir, Sundarijal, Chisapani, or Shivapuri Peak.

02

Pack Essentials
Carry sufficient water, snacks, a hat, sunscreen, and sturdy hiking shoes. Even though the trail isn’t overly challenging, being well-prepared makes the experience more comfortable and enjoyable.

03

Respect Nature
Always take your trash with you, avoid disturbing wildlife, and be mindful of the plants and natural surroundings.

04

Check Weather Conditions
Trails can become slippery during the monsoon, and fog may reduce visibility. It’s best to check the forecast before your hike to ensure safe and pleasant conditions.
